I just bought these on a mad shopping spree this afternoon:

Sweeeeeeeet.

Dear University of Illinois:

In the grand bruhaha that is the Chief-oriented BOT meetings this week, you seem to have missed the fact that it is the week before Spring break here in central Illinois. I would assume that you are not aware, therefore, that this week has been the first warm one of spring in general for at least as long as I have been here. You MIGHT want to consider paying attention to the weather forcasts for this timeframe so that you can be sure to SHUT OFF THE FRICKIN HEAT in the buildings at this time. I am fairly certain that having to work in raosting hot quarters and then be yelled at for opening windows in the building trying to get some kind of breeze going (because, you know, the windows might pop off or something) is most likely an OSHA violation of some sort (the whole "cruel and unusual punishment" thing maybe?).

I would be willing to bet the President's office is nice and comfortable, no?

Sweatingly yours,
Maladjusted

Rant#1

Spray painted on the sidewalk in front of my building at work this morning (as well as other administrative buildings on campus):

"Apologize for the Chief" and "KKK est. 1906"

Now, I understand that the chief was a symbol that offended some folks and I also understand that some people felt some incredible attachment to it for whatever reason, but this kind of thing is what drives me so effin' bonkers about the whole pro vs. anti chief thing. Pro, anti, I really don't give two shits about it either way but FFS, comparing any of it to an organization that has actively and historically murdered and tortured people that are different from them just takes it a step over the line for me. Yeah, you can all have your sides and your feelings but dang, if you're going to spew inflamatory phrases to try and make your point, you've already compromised your stance and people's support in it, in my opinion.

Rant#2

This early daylight savings time shift is total bullshit. Even with the antiquated reasons behind the practice in the first place (allowing more daylight for farmers to work as I understand it), you've now made the change when (1) the farmers aren't really doing anything yet as the ground has been frozen for months and (2) the kids are still in school so they are now heading to the bus stop at barely more than dawn. And can someone please explain to me why we humans feel the need to try and manipulate time in the first place? For crying out loud, if you need more daylight hours to do stuff, adjust your damn schedule for wakening and sleeping. It doesn't have to be this hard. It's not like it actually makes the sun be up any more time than it was before.

Please feel free to vent away here if you have a Monday morning rant to share. Growl.

Oh my goodness. Has anyone here sold a house with plans of moving to a new one far away? The sheer prospect is already freaking me out big time. We had some folks look at our home last night (people we know through the kidlet) and I'm working on pulling together other information for them about it figuring I'll have to if we go with a realtor anyways. Just figuring out where to get information like property taxes, figuring out what's worth listing, trying to find information about what was done before you moved in, etc.

It's all totally gut-wrenching. Maybe I could just instead pay to have the house loaded on a big truck, hauled to Virginia and put on a lot so I didn't have to go through the whole selling/buying thing. Ugh.

I have accepted a position at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Details to be worked out still, but they'd like me to start by mid-April if possible. Yikes!
So while Unofficial always makes it somewhat unpleasant to work in the core of campustown where I am, I have to admit that as a college student you know I'd be all up in that, so I try to keep an open mind about it all. That said, kids who can be out drinking before I get to work at 7am really shouldn't complain about 8am classes. :)
