OK, can anyone explain to me why in a college town (a Big 10 school town, nonetheless), we don't have a White Castle or a Denny's? What the hell is wrong with this area that neither of those are here. And even better and tastier, some really needs to open up a Chik-Fil-A, for crying out loud. Those sandwiches and waffle fries are about the best thing on earth.

We had a Denny's out by the mall until recently. It's a shame because they have a really healthy kids menu (most places don't). There is a Denny's Diner in Tuscola right off the highway. If you are taking an afternoon to go to the outlet, its a good place to stop.

Have you tried the Pancake House? We started going there a few months ago after giving up on our old "usual" and trying out almost every breakfast spot in town. The service is great and the food is good quality. Sunday's at 9:00 is the church rush, so go before or after that time.

There are SO MANY things I can't believe this town doesn't have. But I guess that's what makes travelling special.

Yes, we love the Original Pancake House for brunch. However, I am particularly curious where students get a cup of coffee for a buck and change (with free refills) while studying in the middle of the night. I can't think of anything besides Mary Anne's in town that's open 24 hours to start with, and that's not really a great study place. It's just a niche that I figured existed in most college towns and am surprised to see missing here.

I don't know if Perkins is open 24 hours or not. The one out on Neil used to be. I know, because that was the site of Mr. lbotp's and my first date.

I totally agree with you about Chik-Fil-A, but that's sort of a geographical thing. for some reason they don't really like the state of Illinois.

I think Perkins here stopped being 24 hours many years ago (most of the ones in the region made that change and some, like the Bloomington one, closed entirely after a while). I just remember last nights of studying for exams and drinking coffee and noshing there, or REALLY late nights of heading out for food after the bars closed.

Chik-Fil-A has special places in Bloomington, one in the union (only available to students and faculty according to the website) and there was one in State Farm Corporate when I worked there. I guess I just figure if they can pull it in, why can't U of I? Man, they must put crack in the chicken because I LOVE that stuff! I'm glad I'm heading out east twice in the next two weeks. You know I'll be eating some chicken sandwiches and waffle fries!

I'd love a White Castle just as much as a Trader Joe's....

I have never had worse food or worse service than at at Denny's. By far, the worst place to eat... ever. only Bob Evans rivals Denny's in wretchedness.
