Dear University of Illinois:

In the grand bruhaha that is the Chief-oriented BOT meetings this week, you seem to have missed the fact that it is the week before Spring break here in central Illinois. I would assume that you are not aware, therefore, that this week has been the first warm one of spring in general for at least as long as I have been here. You MIGHT want to consider paying attention to the weather forcasts for this timeframe so that you can be sure to SHUT OFF THE FRICKIN HEAT in the buildings at this time. I am fairly certain that having to work in raosting hot quarters and then be yelled at for opening windows in the building trying to get some kind of breeze going (because, you know, the windows might pop off or something) is most likely an OSHA violation of some sort (the whole "cruel and unusual punishment" thing maybe?).

I would be willing to bet the President's office is nice and comfortable, no?

Sweatingly yours,
Maladjusted

I *totally* agree....

I just looked at our thermostat (which is broken, by the way, even O&M/F&S has looked at it a zillion times) and it reads:

82 degrees

Yikes! And that's with *two* window air conditioners running---we have about a zillion computers running in here, so we can't let it get *too* hot. You know, cuz 82 degrees is balmy, after all....

Me three! My office is down the hall from Gamera's. I have a mini-fan blowing on me. My thermostat says 80. This happens every year. But don't complain too much, they might actually turn off the heat and then Hell will freeze over, then you'll be wishing the heat was still on.

Yesterday and today I totally swelled up with Fred Flintstone feet all because of the heat in my office.

Who yelled at you for opening a window?

The yelling at always comes from the administrator in our building. Apparently they decided they didn't want the windows opened at some point in history, probably for efficiency and cost reasons if I had to guess, so they *removed* the keys to unlock and cranks to open them, if you can believe that. Some folks caught a wind of what was going on and took off and saved the keys and cranks first, so that we can open most of the windows (those that were unlocked prior to the keys being removed). All in all, being told we shouldn't open windows (or now, that we can't open them very much or they will blow off, since they now know about the keys and cranks) when the building is about 90 degrees is rediculous.

What if there is a fire and you all need to jump out to save your lives? Seems a safety issue if you can't open windows.

I'm really glad that we are on the fringes of campus (both figuratively and literally). They *tend* to leave us alone over here. Although I heard we got into trouble once because someone painted their own office when we moved to this building.
